ASSUMPTION
COLLEGE
Assumption
College is an innovative women’s college committed to excellent
education for leadership and social transformation. It was inspired by
its founder, St. Marie Eugenie Milleret de Brou. The College
passionately forms persons and communities of faith and action through a
transformative education that nurtures faith and spirituality, pursues
academic excellence for service, and instills social responsibility,
thus forging character for life and life for God.
Education in the Assumption is rooted in the ideals of its Foundress,
St. Marie Eugenie, who envisioned the Christian transformation of
society and recognized the crucial role of women in this process. She
saw education as the pivotal means through which young women can be
formed so that they manifest in their lives the spirit of Jesus Christ
and extend His reign as they serve as leaven in their milieu.
The primary purpose of Assumption College is to facilitate a
transformative education that brings about liberation, conversation and
humanization of the person and society through quality Catholic
education characterized by an education that integrates faith and
academic excellence with life for service; an education that is
committed to the development of the Philippine society, in particular,
and the world in general; and an education that is holistic in its
development of the woman as an empowered and effective leader for
significant change in the society, prominently through her career, and
essentially as a wife and mother.

DID YOU KNOW?
Saint Marie Eugenie Milleret de Brou established the Assumption Convent
as a means to make Christian transformation of society through
education. The Congregation of the Religious of the Assumption was
founded in Paris on the 30th of April 1839, by Saint Marie Eugenie
Milleret de Brou (1817-1898). Through education, it aims for the
transformation of persons and society through gospel values and life
centered on Jesus Christ. The Religious of the Assumption first came to
the Philippines in 1892. At the request of Queen Maria Cristina of
Spain, they established the Superior Normal School for Women Teachers in
Intramuros in 1892, which pioneered women education in the Philippines.
Among its first graduates were Rosa Sevilla de Alvero, Foundress of the
Instituto de Mujeres; Librada Avelino and Carmen de Luna, who founded
Centro Escolar University. At the outbreak of the Revolution of 1898 the
operation of the school was abruptly stopped and the Sisters returned to
Europe.
